Sunny Saturday

I got a massage yesterday. Thank goodness! My poor body was a total mess, but I'm feeling better now. Not 100%, by any means, but I feel like I might actually be able to get a few things done around the house today. I still really need a visit to the chiropractor and a neurologist, but getting some care was so worth it!

We're looking for a new place, which isn't going great. There just aren't a lot of options right now, something we were not expecting since this is such a seasonal area and there are usually a lot of ski leases that end around this time. I'm not looking forward to moving again. Moving here was rough and getting the house was difficult since I had to scrub EVERYTHING before I could even think about unpacking. But, we have to, I need insurance, and moving is the only way we're ever going to be able to afford that. We still haven't heard back from our landlords about our deposit, so that's making me concerned too. Either way, we have one of the guys from the rental office coming by on Tuesday to do an inspection, so I want to get a lot of packing/cleaning up done before he comes.

We bought a new vacuum last night. Our broke pretty much as soon as we got it (hand-me-down from Taylor's Mom) and Shinobi is getting ready to blow his coat, so we really needed one! I'd been tearing the other one apart each time I needed to use it! Not fun at all. I'm going to vacuum everything ever today! I have a feeling that little dust gatherer might have to be emptied about 5 times.

Hey there.

We're (mostly) settled into the new place. I have yet to uncover my storage container with my needles in it... but I know it's somewhere around here. I keep putting things away so they don't get damaged or so "I know where they are..." But, of course, I promptly forget where I put them to be safe, so that plan isn't really working out well.

I think I managed to complete finish knitting ONE whole project in the month of September:

A vest for the lovely Norah.

I still haven't managed to block, weave in ends, or sew on buttons yet. I just found buttons a few days ago in my jars, so I need to get on that considering it should already be in the mail now! Derp!

I started a new job as well. I really like it so far and I hope it goes well. I'd like to be somewhere good for a while so I can feel like a normal person for a while.

I'm still here

Wow. I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted. I've been cameraless most of the summer, with brief moments of it working perfectly...

And then totally dead again. Being cameraless means that there aren't as many random quickie photos for me to blog about. I've also been severely slacking on my knitting. I haven't knit a stitch since Thursday and that was the first time I had touched it almost a week. I'm trying to finish a hooded scarf before the end of the month for a friend's mom. I really need to get on that one! It's been my traveling project, but car knitting hasn't been very appealing to me lately.

It's been a busy summer. Got a new job - for all of 3 weeks. Now I'm hunting again. We signed a lease on a new place on Friday. I'll be living in the next town over and leaving Boulder's odd little bubble for the first time in 4 years. Bug (and Vince) have moved to New York, so my wee doggie love is gone which was heartbreaking beyond belief. Luckily, at the new place, I can get a Shiba face and have fur everywhere again. I've been hiking a lot, which is wonderful. We did 2 hikes this week, one on Labor Day that was about 10-11 miles, and then one on Friday that was about 6-7. It's been great getting into RMNP so often. That $80-annual-any-National-park-pass has already paid for itself.

September is my 10-year knitting anniversary. Since I'm moving, I've had a lot of interaction with the stash, which is always interesting. There are things that I've found that I can instantly match up with the idea of what it was going to become and others just make me tilt my head like a confused puppy. Our new place isn't all that large, so I'm thinking I'm going to end up having to get a small storage unit somewhere. I don't want to live in a crowded apartment again after being in this tiny place for 2 years.

I'm off to pack more! Most of the stash is in the car right now and I need to drop it off at the storage place we have right now for the contents of my place. Sadly, move out/in dates didn't line up well, so I'll be living out of a suitcase at Blaine's until our place is ready.

Unfurling

I just moved. It's closer school, which is nice. It's big change and adjustment.

I'm completely overwhelmed by the amount of yarn I have. I gave away so much over the summer, yet I still have 4 large storage bins full (not to mention the overflow into random areas). I'm making good progress getting through the cotton stash. I'm trying to make a decent amount of stock for etsy.

Today I stuck my hand in the top of one of my storage bins (you can just see the corner of it in the photo), and grabbed the first thing in there. It was some fake mohair stuff that's been lurking in the stash for a while. It pills like crazy. (I knit a hat for Vince using that along with a strand of icky green acrylic and it looks insane now.) I hope that blending it with two other oddly fuzzy yarns will make it a little less crazy looking after a few wearings. I am knitting a chunky little hat out of a strand of peach, pale grey, and the original tan fake mohair. I knit about half of it earlier today, but it turned out waaaaay to big for my head. I ripped it out and started again. I'm almost done with it. I'm not sure how I feel about it for me. It might go into a charity box.

Storage

My yarn is living twenty minutes away from me.

Storage. Ugh.

It can be a painful word. Especially if you're a knitter and have a sizable stash like myself. One giant clear storage bin, one medium sized blue one and a few random bags and boxes here and there. (Quick aside: when buying storage containers for your yarn, never, ever, ever buy a non-clear bin. I have a portion of mine in a light blue bin, and while it's a great bin, I have to dig through the whole thing to find one teeny tiny ball of cotton to finish a dishcloth... Not fun. And I always find some forgotten yarn that must be cast on right at that moment.)

My yarn is tucked away nicely in a lovely storage room on the other side of Boulder. It's been bagged and binned so I'm not worried about bugs or odor, but it's so frakkin' far away!

What do I do at 1 am on a Sunday when I have to knit a hat out of that lovely baby blue Debbie Bliss cashmerino? Or knit a monster for my shop? (Which I wanted to do last night but all the yarn and my needles are there!!)

The needle thing should be solved shortly, I have a nice little table that has a ton of storage, it's sort of like a small trunk on legs. I'm planning on making it my night stand so I'll have a lot more stuff nearby. For now, I figured it was more important to try to get my clothes unpacked and try to get my desk and computer set up (only the clothes have been dealt with so far.)

So for now, I'm stuck with knitting the last bit of the Hourglass and the just-under-a-foot-long Chevron scarf. I really want to frog the Chevron scarf though because I think I need to go up a needle size... Oh well. It still looks good and someone will like it if I don't.

Work it.

I'm officially moving to Boulder in a little over two weeks. My apartment looks like hell and I've been getting nothing done between work, trying to sleep and helping paint a friend's new house.

I've gotten a bit of packing done, but not nearly enough. I'm really trying to avoid the traditional last minute pack-a-thon/clean-a-thon/panic attacks in the stairwells while trying to carry 50lb of boxes to stuff into a moving van. We'll see how that goes. About 2/3rds of my books are packed. I still need to figure out what to do with the knitting books and magazines... and the yarn. Hmmm...

The issue is, I'm not moving directly into my own place. I'm going to stay with Vince for a but while I look for a place and stuff. We just wanted to get my move over and done with as soon as possible. So.... How much yarn do I need? What projects do I take? I'm not a very monogamous knitter. I'll be able to get to my knitting stuff, so I really shouldn't be that worried... But I packed 3 projects just for a road trip. I know I need lots of things to knit. I guess I'll just be digging into storage containers a lot.

I really need to knit the LAST 6 ROWS and just finish my damned Hourglass already. I was going to do it last night, but I was in a bad mood and didn't feel like counting. I pulled the Log Cabin throw out from it's storage box and added 2 new strips to it. I'm sort of changing the pattern around a bit now. Frankly, I was bored with it, so now I'm adding big chunks of solid color in random places. I like the variety.

I was also trying to knit another hat for Vince, but I can't find my frakkin' US 8 hat-sized circs ANYWHERE. Granted, I'm packing and my place is a mess, but I started looking for it the day after I got back --- before the packing started. It's vanished. I guess I need to get another since it's one of the needles I use most often.

This is a hat I knit before I left, I'm knitting a larger version of it for Vince. I used the now M.I.A. needles for it. It's super chunky Encore. It's a great color, deep brown with gold and navy running through. Mmm... yarn...
