Little Black Beret*

I'm on a hat kick. I can't stop making them. I blame Ohio and the winter.

Today's hat was not intended to be a beret, it just sort of turned out that way. I'm not even really sure how it happened. It's knit out of some Lion Brand Chenille that was in my stash. I generally hate chenille and still kind of do. I would never knit something larger than a hat out of it. I used US size 8 DPNs and cast on a random number of stitches, then I decreased once I was worried the yarn was running out. I actually could have made it much larger, but I think it fits very well and I'm glad it's not any bigger.

It's pretty perfect timing too -- we're expecting a pretty big snow storm tonight and I just found two pairs of black mittens in my closet!

Now I really have to get to work on a beanie for Z. I've cast on about 4 times for one made out of the brown alpaca he got me for Christmas, but it's just too fine and I keep breaking it. I've tried it on 3 different sized needles and nothing seems to really work. I'm going to dig some plain black wool out of the stash and use that.

*sing to the tune of "Little Red Corvette"

The hat looks great. I'm on a hat-kick as well, but am trying to break free. I actually just cast on for a shawl yesterday using some Misti Alpaca. Sooo soft.

I'm still in hat mode. I think I've got another 4 or 5 in me before I get sick of them and start with mittens.
