Math is evil.

I figured it was about time for a "real" post.

I'm trying to get into college here in NC. I've sent in my application, have contacted my old schools for my transcripts(which was a feat in and of itself...) and am trying to talk to an admissions counselor about where to go from here. I need help getting money. I need help deciding what to major in. I need help.

This afternoon I was on the way to the store to pick up some DPNs and a some sock yarn, (Yes, I am finally going to attempt to knit socks. They just look so nice.) and this guy calls me from UNCW. I called earlier today to find out if they had gotten everything they need and see if they can guide me in the right direction. I honestly wasn't expecting a call today because their outgoing message said it would be close to 3 days before they would be able to return phone calls. The guy was nice enough, but in the future, I think I'll go in to talk to someone. He was talking in circles and kept getting off topic and basically confused the shit out of me.

I think this is what it boils down to -- I need more math credits. I know this without UNCW even seeing my transcripts from OSU and Denison. So my best option for now seems to be trying to get into Cape Fear or one of the other community colleges around town. I find this greatly annoying honestly. I didn't start off at some community college. I was at a huge university, in fact the biggest one in the WORLD, but because I don't have the right credits, I can't get into UNCW. No offense, especially because I would like to go there, but does a branch college in a small city really need to be that selective. I know people want to go here because it's near the beach and some programs are good but seriously! I'm just really irritated because I feel like it's a huge waste of time to go to one college for one or two classes and then transfer again. Maybe I'm extra weary of this idea because I went to so many primary schools. I just hate transferring schools. It's a hassle.

I guess question now is: should I just hunt around for a school somewhere in NC that will let me transfer in without having to go to a community college or should I just deal and do the transfer thing here in Wilmington?

I vote that you do whatever it takes to go to the school you want to attend. Having loved my college (Kenyon, incidentally), I can't imagine going someplace else just b/c it was more convenient. So if UNCW is where you really want to go then I would take the math creds wherever and go from there.

Of course, as you don't know me, my opinion is worth precisely squat. :)

UNCW isn't really where I want to go. It's here and it's a college. That's the only reason I applied.
